Cloud CL-Z Mic Activator
Bring Your Mics to Life

Cloudlifters increase the sensitivity of your microphone and bring its natural tonal characteristics into focus. The single-channel Cloudlifter CL-1, two-channel Cloudlifter CL-2, and rack-mountable four channel Cloudlifter CL-4 all provide up to +25dB of ultra-clean gain with fixed impedance loading at 3kΩ, optimized for a wide variety of microphones. Each one is designed to improve the sensitivity and performance of lower-output microphones dramatically. Whether you’re using an expensive, professional-grade microphone/preamp combination or common microphones with a basic home setup, Cloudlifters provide way more signal from the microphone itself, allowing the preamp to operate in its optimal gain range by reducing the amount of gain needed. This reduces noise and distortion, bringing more of the microphone’s natural character into focus. For those recording professionally, at home, or performing on stage, Cloudlifters are valuable tools that produce high-quality, professional audio.

Up to +25 dB of Gain

Hear more of your dynamic and ribbon microphone's natural character and increase the clarity with +25dB of ultra-clean gain. Cloudlifters provide ultra-clean gain in two distinct stages while optimizing impedance loading.

The Cloudlifter uses +48v Phantom Power but does not pass power to the mic. For this reason, the Cloudlifter is a great way to keep your ribbon and tube mics safe from exposure to Phantom Power while providing the extra gain they need.

Reduce Unwanted Feedback

As a result of increased sensitivity and ultra-clean gain, the amount of gain required by the preamp is reduced significantly. This also reduces noise and improves the natural frequency response of the mic by allowing the preamp or interface to operate within its comfort zone!

Perfect for Podcasts, Professional and home Studios, AV, and Live Sound

Whether you are a pro studio looking for more gain from your ribbon or tube mics or narrating a podcast or video with a dynamic mic, creating quality content with the Cloudlifter is easy.

Variable Impedance Control

Variable High-Pass Filtering

Continuously variable high-pass filtering @ -6dB per octave works in tandem with the variable impedance control for even greater tonal shaping.
Variable Gain

Two gain settings - more & max - yield up to +25dB of ultra-clean gain for low output dynamic & ribbon microphones.

Many of you have shared common preamp issues with a weak, noisy signal for your dynamic microphones (such as the SM7b). I've been using the CL-1 for years to get a cleaner, louder signal but after trying out the CL-Z, the creative tone shaping possibilities have definitely gone up a notch :) Cloudlifter Z: https://bit.ly/cloud-clz-sd Full Review + more on Variable Impedance: https://seandivine.com/cloudlifter-cl-z-review-and-demo/ Many thanks to Cloud for sponsoring this review! samson - I cannot possibly be without this now that I have it.

I didn't see too many reviews for this product so I was a little unsure. It works tremendously well, almost like magic considering my signal originates with a USB 2.0 audio interface (Steinberg UR22), so, NO AC is being used from the Steinberg, but it has phantom power, which powers this unit. It is UNBELIEVABLE how much gain I am getting, and how much noticeable improvement results from my Rode Promaster, I rarely turn the dial on my UR past the halfway mark, whereas before it was just barely getting the job done at 100%. The extra features on this unit are nice to have, and though I can hear the difference at the extreme ends of the center wheel, there is more experimenting to be done, but it is nice knowing I have the versatility to use this same module with other microphones, even if the exact differences in sound might be difficult to perceive, in order to optimize the signal. Build quality is exceptional, and the lifetime warranty is nice to have. Tremendous product from a great company!

The larger CLZ model is based on the same concept but adds a variable input impedance (150Ω to 15kΩ), so that you can adjust it to find the sweet spot for any mic. This is typically 1.5kΩ or higher but lower values may...

There’s a lot to love about the Cloudlifter. It turns phantom power into clean, transparent gain. It gets the best out of long cable runs and noisy preamps. In fact, it turns any preamp into a high-gain “ribbon preamp.”...

The CL-Z is a must-have for anyone with ribbon microphones in their collection. Being able to have control over the impedance alone adds a ton of value to your sound. On low output dynamics, you’re able to add enough gain that you don’t need to kill your preamp for a decent sound. If you get the chance to check out the CL-Z, or any other...

If you're using a Shure sm7b you really should consider getting the CL-Z along with it. I think it does an excellent job of lowering the noise without having to overcompensate on the gain...

Experience Ultimate Control

It’s a little like an EQ, but without ANY phase alteration. Tighten, widen, and gently push the tone in the direction you like, and with a HPF that is continuously variable. These options are especially useful for controlling proximity effect with a Ribbon Mic as the clarity can easily be dialed. With Tube Condensers, the Z control works like magic to gently remove and tame sibilance without affecting phase.
