No diaphragm. No capsule. Just a strip of corrugated aluminum thinner than a human hair, moving freely in a magnetic field — captured in a natural figure-8 pattern that mirrors the way your own ears hear a room. It's the simplest transducer design in audio, and the reason ribbon mics capture sound as true to the source as anything in the mic locker.

Why figure-8?

Did you know a figure-8 microphone can often provide more directional control than a cardioid?

A wide cardioid pickup pattern captures sound across an entire side of the mic — which is exactly what makes it lack precise focus. The Cloud ribbon element is built with perfect symmetry on both sides, giving each side an identical frequency response. It vibrates from sound waves much like an eardrum, capturing a stunningly realistic sound.

The design mimics how our ears perceive sound — two ears give us a natural sense of our sonic environment. The mic's backside acts as a negative image, canceling out sound that reaches both sides equally, so you get a balanced, natural tone by embracing the entire acoustic space.

The symmetrical, tightly focused figure-8 pattern gives you precise control over your sound — shape the ambience, reject unwanted reflections, and eliminate noise from the sides, floor, and ceiling with subtle adjustments in mic placement.
