A Classic Reborn for The Modern Age

The Cloud 44-A draws inspiration from the first version of the RCA 44 series microphones, incorporating lessons learned from later RCA models like the BK-11. "The original 44A from RCA was always a favorite of mine," says Rodger Cloud, "especially with the modification that RCA engineers used to perform on the 44-A during the later years of the RCA era." This modification involved removing the grilles in front of the ribbon, which caused coloration in the mid-range due to frequencies and sound waves bouncing off the grilles. RCA engineers replaced these grilles with fabric or silk over the ribbon area to protect it from particles. This allowed sound waves to interact with the ribbon unobstructed by metal parts, resulting in a more natural, open sound with a realistic extended high-frequency response, rich lows, and a full-detail mid-range true to the source.

The Cloud 44-A, inspired by this modified RCA 44-A, is modernized for today's demanding needs. It delivers a stunningly natural sound with an extended high-frequency response that is both realistic and detailed. With exceptional clarity, a robust low-end, and a full mid-range, the 44-A is a new modern classic, perfect for today's

most demanding recording applications.

Imagine Harry Olson, equipped with today's technology, reimagining his classic RCA 44. In developing the Cloud 44-A, we continually asked ourselves, "What would Harry do to fully honor the past while exceeding the demands of the present?" This is that microphone, the one that we believe Harry Olson himself would have created today as the natural evolution of the RCA 44 series for the modern digital recording era.
